How To Spot The Next Football Wonderkid
Spotting the next wonderkid is every scout’s dream. For some, even just being associated with a professional player is a story you’ll tell to strangers at a bar forever, “I went to school with him” or “I used to play with her”. What if you could have a direct influence on whether someone goes pro or not? What if you could ensure that someone goes pro and always tell people, “I helped that player go pro”?
How You Can Help Players Become Professionals.
ScoutR is an app where your rating of a player can directly influence their career. ScoutR uses a rating system for four key attributes: Ability, Awareness, Pace, and Strength. You can rate a player’s highlights based on these attributes, which also provides an overall score for the player.
This score can then be used by scouts to search, find, and filter the best players around the globe, and even narrow it down to specific age groups. Let’s take a look at how you can help spot the next football wonderkid.
Top 5 Tips To Spot The Next Football Wonderkid
Let’s dive deep into how you can reliably find the next football wonderkid with ScoutR.

1. Ability
Look out for a player’s ability, which is the first slider. Examine the clips they have uploaded, their position, and their ability to perform. Did they make a last-ditch, well-timed tackle? How was their technique? What is their shooting accuracy like? How good is their passing ability? These are all factors that contribute to a player’s ability. Ratings are out of 100. For example, if a player uploads a highlight of them making a 100/100 tackle but then misplaces their pass, it’s best to consider both the tackle and the pass when rating. If the pass was well-timed but slightly behind the player making a run toward goal, and rated 70/100, you could rate the entire clip around 80.
The best thing about ScoutR is that it’s all judgement-based.
2. Awareness
Awareness is another key skill that can be demonstrated at any age but more importantly, consistently improves throughout a player’s career. Examples of great awareness include how players scan the pitch before receiving a ball, indicators that a player knows what they’re going to do with the ball before receiving it, and being aware of their teammates’ and defenders’ positions at all times.
Awareness is tricky to spot. However, you can easily notice the aforementioned behaviors. For example, does a player scan the pitch before receiving the ball? Do they look over their shoulder to see if they’re being pressed or pressured? Do they know when to take a touch? Do they know what they’re going to do with the ball before they receive it? Do they make a first-time pass back to their team or a first-time ball through to an attacking teammate they’ve already seen making a run? The very top players know where their teammates are and what they’re doing without even looking at them. For example, French players know that when they play for France, Mbappe will always be looking for the ball over the top or between defenders, so it’s a safe bet they can make those plays without looking.
3. Pace
Pace is easier to spot and while not always crucial to determining if a player is good, it’s a valuable attribute, especially if scouts are specifically looking for speed. To spot pace, simply rate how fast you think that player is on a scale of 1 to 100.
4. Strength
Strength is similar to pace. While not entirely necessary to become a professional, there is a wide range of strengths among players at the top level. It’s a useful skill for scouts to be able to search for and it also helps players who might not be the fastest but are stronger to be noticed.
To rate strength, observe how strong a player is on the ball. Do they get easily pushed off it? Are they strong in tackles when defending? Do they push opponents off the ball?
Strength is a great attribute that anyone can add to their game and will improve their overall play.
5. Consistency
Consistency in ratings is key. We have found that the community rating system has been extremely successful in identifying top players on ScoutR, such as Faisal Aloqab, Gabriel Ababio, and Noah Moore. If you’re aiming to use ScoutR to become a pro, it’s important to upload a variety of different highlights. High stats won’t matter to a scout if you only have a couple of uploads. Scouts will want to see a wide range of highlights to gain a good understanding of the player you are.
How ScoutR is changing the game
Thanks to the rating system, you now have a direct opportunity to impact someone’s career. You could change their life with one rating; it could be the rating that helps them be noticed by a professional scout. ScoutR is bringing football into the modern age and giving everyone around the world an opportunity to become a professional footballer.
